Here are the awards up for grabs at Smokefreerockquest 2010!
The Lowdown Best Song Award
The Lowdown Best Song Award is given to the individual or group who demonstrates skill in songwriting at each Regional and National Final. Writing great songs is something that takes time, practice and courage to push the limits and try something different. www.thelowdown.co.nz is a cool website that helps young kiwis understand and deal with depression, so check it out.
APRA Lyric Award
The APRA Lyric Award acknowledges the great lyrics being written by individuals and groups. The songs will be assessed solely from written lyrics submitted at each heat, or submitted at least two weeks before each Regional Final. The judges will be looking for effective and suitable lyrics. You may provide an additional written explanation of your lyrics if you wish. Certificates will be presented to Regional Winner’s, and the best lyric national will be announced at the National Final. Smokefree Peoples Choice Award
At every Regional Final, Smokefree are giving one additional band an opportunity to submit a video and complete for a place at the National Final. Audience (and band) members can vote for the favourite band/s by txting thir name from the moshpit. Listen to the MC at the final for details og how to vote. For fairness, voters will only be allowed to vote once for each band they support form each cell number. Multiple votes will be rejected.
MAINZ Musicianship Award
Awarded to the most outstanding musician at each Regional Final. Each Regional Musicianship Award winner then becomes eligible for the MAINZ Scholarship, worth $4225. This will be awarded to one Regional Award winner based on written material submitted by them. The MAINZ Scholarship consists of a years full tuition fees for one of the following MAINZ Certificate programmes; Contemporary Music Performance, Live Sound and Event Production, Audio Engineering and Music Production, or Foundation Sound and Music. The Scholarship must be redeemed in either 2010 or 2011 and is available at both the MAINZ campuses in Auckland and Christchurch. The MAINZ Scholarship winner will be announced at the National Final.
Smokefree Women's Musicianship Award
The Smokefree Award for Women's Musicianship has been part of the competition since 1993. Previous winners include Bic Runga, Brooke Fraser, and Anika Moa. All female musicians entering the competition are automatically eligible for the award. The Regional awards will be judged at the Regional Finals.
Jupiter Brass and Woodwind Award
The NZ Rockshops are proud to announce the Jupiter Brass and Woodwind Prize for Smokefreerockquest 2010. The school that has the most number of brass/woodwind entrants in the competition will receive $1000 worth of Jupiter equipment from the NZ Rockshops.
Rockshop Second Chance
If things on the night don’t go your way for some reason, and you meet the following conditions that demonstrate your band is already doing the things that lead to success, then you can get a SECOND CHANCE to be considered for the national final.
